Cut! A Day in L.A.

Cut! A Day in L.A.

L.A. in all its glory: First the haircut, then the traffic ticket. Cut – and action. 🎬✂️

Our Airbnb is centrally located, Lena lives just around the corner. She surprises us with a haircut appointment at Alex’s – her trusted stylist.

Reinhold is skeptical. He remembers the prices Lena and I paid in the past at so-called celebrity salons in L.A. No wonder he’s cautious: “I’m not paying a fortune for some lame haircut.”
But one look in the mirror – and the decision is made.

The salon is small and unpretentious. No glam vibes here.
Alex, originally from Malaysia, once cut hair in Hamburg. Since then, he’s loved Modern Talking and Jennifer Rush – which also plays softly in the background.

After 45 minutes, we’re out again:
Trimmed, relaxed, in a great mood. Hair: on point.

Haircut panic, Level 10. Good thing Alex knew what he was doing.

But the day isn’t over yet …

We head toward Malibu – “Good Vibrations” in our ears.

But first: mandatory stop at our go-to Starbucks.
Cappuccino with soy milk, extra shot – the usual.

How to spell “Walter”? Starbucks: where every name becomes a riddle.

Then we drive on along the coast. Sun, breeze, all good. Until the U-turn.
A sign? Sure: “No U-turn.” But we’ve been doing it for years. Just not this time.

Sirens! Loud, shrill – definitely not part of the playlist.
I think, “Are they filming ‘Police Academy’ here?”

But no – it’s real. A police officer on a motorcycle pulls us over.
Our quiet hope of getting a tourist pass? Shattered.

🧾 265 dollars for an illegal U-turn.
Our first ticket in California. We take it in stride – and next time, we’ll just turn a bit later.

Not every road trip ends with Good Vibrations. Sometimes, it ends with a ticket.

In L.A., you get it all – new hairstyles, great tunes, and the occasional lesson in traffic law.
