Onward to Malibu – Our Quiet Bliss

Onward to Malibu – Our Quiet Bliss

After winding canyon roads, hippie charm, and a surprise coyote encounter, we’re heading on – toward Malibu, toward the sea.

We follow the Pacific Coast Highway south until a sign points us onto Las Flores Canyon Road:
Tsunami Evacuation Route. Well then – let’s hope for the best.

The road twists its way up through the rocks, higher and higher, until – hard to believe – we turn onto Hume Road. That’s where our new home awaits:

An Airbnb with Ling and David. A house high above the Pacific, nestled in the Malibu Mountains.

Lemon trees in the yard. A bubbling fountain. Cacti in all shapes and sizes. It smells of sunshine and lavender. A little paradise – no doubt.

Sadly, only for five days.

And – as always – no one asked if we might just want to stay forever.

“Our spot above the Pacific”
A look back at our peaceful refuge in the Malibu Hills: lemons on the tree, cacti at the door, breakfast with a view. A place to live – or at least to dream.

🍳 Hula & Hollandaise – Hawaiian Brunch at Duke’s

After canyon vibes, haircut adventures, and traffic tickets, we treat ourselves:

Sunday brunch with ocean view.

We meet Lena and Tanja at the legendary Duke’s Malibu – right by the coast, open windows, tropical fruit, and that salty breeze that smells like freedom.

The menu? Pure poetry.

Hawaiian brunch. Tropical, hearty, sweet.

Loco Moco. Pineapple pancakes. Eggs Benedict with Kalua pork. Fresh pineapple, coconut – and coffee with lots of foam.

Naturally, we try everything – it’s a buffet, after all.
Outside, the waves crash.
Inside, we laugh, talk, taste.

We stay. With Mimosa Flights. Long ones. Very long.

And when we finally leave, we take one thought with us:

Maybe someday someone will ask us if we just want to stay.

Malibu Moments”
Beach walks, waves, binoculars, and tropical fruit – a Sunday of sunshine, silliness, and syrup. Duke’s is unforgettable – and not just for the food.
