Busselton, Blue Trees and Ocean Air

Denmark to Busselton – Blue Trees, Laundry & Long Jetties

Denmark – Busselton: 303 km | approx. 3:40 hrs drive

Our road trip through the wild and romantic southwest of Australia is slowly heading toward its finale. But before we close the loop in Perth, we’re making one last stop in Busselton – let’s see what this coastal town has in store for us.

Farewell, Sensational Heights

More or less nourished – but definitely with new stories in our bags – we leave our B&B behind.
One last glance over the shoulder: a baby kangaroo naps peacefully in the shade.
Now that’s what we call an Aussie-style siesta.

Baby kangaroo in full nap mode.

A Blue Tree by the Roadside

A bright blue tree pops up in the landscape. We frown, then smile – Aussie humor? Street art?
But when more blue trees appear, it becomes clear: this isn’t random.

So quiet. So loud. A blue tree that says: You’re not alone.

The story behind it is deeply moving:
Jayden Whyte and his girlfriend painted a dead tree blue just for fun. Shortly afterward, Jayden took his own life.
The “Blue Tree Initiative” was born in his memory and has since spread across the globe – a powerful symbol breaking the silence around mental health.
Touching. Strong. And in its own way – beautiful.

Busselton – Jetty & Jokes

For our last stop before Perth, we chose Busselton – because: ocean, coastline, sunset.
And of course: the famous jetty.
1.8 kilometers of wooden boardwalk stretching into the water like a catwalk of the sea.

Bayview Geographe Resort

Our “Executive Villa” is just steps from the beach. Sounds like style, comfort, ocean views.
Reality: more like “Executive Minimalism.” No decoration, no pictures, no frills.
We assume either a wild IKEA raid or a very bold design statement.
But: the washing machine is spinning, the dryer’s purring – and after days of red dust and salty air, these are our best friends.
Fresh laundry has never felt so luxurious.

Executive Villa. No fluff, just function.

Breakfast at “The Good Egg”

The next morning, refreshed and squeaky clean, we start our day at a café with a name full of promise: The Good Egg.
My avocado toast arrives in full XXL format, while Reinhold’s “one sausage” turns out to be a full-on tradie’s breakfast.

Full? Absolutely.
Satisfied? No doubt.

Our journey continues – we’re not done with Western Australia!

From Busselton, we’ll return to Perth – but don’t worry:
We still have a few exciting day trips planned.
The Pinnacles await. And Fremantle, of course.
